Club Extension September 2026

Our extension is nearing completion. Just some tidying to do around the edges.

Mid Devon League Pairs 2026

Our Abbrook Park interest this year was Kevin and Jeff in the Pairs. It was a very close match from the start with each side taking the lead through the match.

Country Club won three shots on the penultimate end to take the lead by one shot. Abbrook then won the last end with one shot to level the match and force an extra end.

The Pairs match was the only one left playing and the crowd appreciated how tight the game was. Jeff had put his bowls very close and so had the opposition, but Kev managed to play a great shot to get through the head within a couple of inches of the jack on his back-hand. The opposition couldn't get close. Kev then played a brilliant shot to get on the jack again, this time on his forehand. The opposition had no answer. Kev and Jeff, Abbrook Park Bowls Club, MDL Finals Winners by two shots, an excellent result.

Teignmouth Tournament 2026

On Monday 7th September the open triples came to Abbrook Park BC. Pictured below are from the day.

Coronation Cup - Sunday 16th August 2026

Hotshot sharpshooters!

Four of our ladies achieved a hotshot during an Interclub match at Buckfastleigh at BC versus Sir Francis Drake. For the uninitiated, a hotshot is an end in which all your woods count as a score. Well done ladies.

In the ladies there were teams from Bitton Park, Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh and Newton Abbot. The winners of Group B have yet to be determined as the final match was abandoned with five ends to play with Bitton Park leading Chudleigh. The match will resume at a later date.

In the mens Group B there were entries from Newton Abbot, two teams from Shaldon and one from Newton Abbot. The final ended up with a contest between the two Shaldon teams. Eventual winners were Lee Haywood, Ollie Lucas, Rich Bawden and Jamie Webber.

Opening of the Green 11th April 2026

Despite the forecast of rain, my prediction of a fine day held up, even though the wind was rather strong and cold!

There was a great atmosphere around the club right from the start, with most people managing to attend the first aid and defibrillator session given by paramedic David Wood. A most useful and informative session, let's hope we never need it.

The traditional group photo took place followed by welcome speeches from Treasurer Andrew Wilkinson, acting as compere for the day, followed by a much shorter speech by Club President Gordon Clark, who then sent the traditional first bowl to formally open the green.

The Spider competition was a close finish, requiring a measure to decide the winner with the result going to very new member Elly Riley.

Around 65 members attended the Green Opening with 52 members playing in either a rink or triples roll-up. Judging by the banter around the green it all went off in good spirit and was a good start to the season.

Many thanks to Lin Sharland who did a great job organising and re-organising the roll-up

Thanks to Jeff Sharland and his team for the work on the green, it has shown a considerable improvement since he raised concerns earlier this year. Finally, many thanks to Wendy Coombes, aided by Dave Schooling, for providing the normal excellent bar service.
