An amazing weekend for our club with some superb bowling. The kitchen was kept very busy over the two days - thanks to all who helped and to Harry and Bill for the bar. Thanks also to Ray our greenskeeper for the condition of the green - it was praised by many of the players.

The highlight of course was our 2 ladies Jean Stevens and Barbara Lawrence who got through to the County Finals in the Over 70 Pairs (Yes - they are that old😂😂).

They won their semi-final on the Saturday morning but unfortunately lost in the afternoon in the Final. But very well done for getting there.

It would have been nice to see more support for the ladies.

29TH AUGUST 2019

My President’s Day at the Club was the climax of my year as President. Everyone enjoyed the day. Rob made an amazing meal - and we had Jim with his steel band. Thanks to all the Ladies who helped me with my day.

Some pics of recent tourist games take by Lionel.

If you were not involved in the Charity Day yesterday (Saturday) to raise money for the Kingscare League of Friends and take part in the mini tournament for the George Bourne Trophy, you don't know what you missed!!

Nearly 50 members registered their interest in taking part by playing four games of six ends with a break for tea, coffee and biscuits after two games. The overall winning team was Ralph Rundle, Irene Forte and skip Jim Preston who won all four of their games.

The weather was superb. The atmosphere was terrific. Norrie did a great job of organising the tournament, despite some last minute changes. The raffle and auction were well supported as was the bar with Harry and Wendy providing their normal jolly service.

Our resident chef, Rob, a man of many, many talents, once again provided a superb barbecue ably assisted by Janice and Hazel. Proved by the fact that members revisited the food tent so often that Rob's food supply completely sold out!!

Lionel was our Master of Ceremonies, encouraging everyone to dig deep into their pockets for the raffle and auction and my word they did just that. The total is yet to be finalised, but I am led to believe that the total sum raised is expected reach a fantastic £1,000!!

The two ladies from Kingscare League of Friends, I believe both were named Maggie, were most impressed with our Club and its members. They arrived just after 9:00 a.m. to set up their stall and gave a talk during the tournament's tea break, explaining how the League of Friends began and how it has grown over the years. Their big challenge at the moment is fund raising, they have had Lottery Funding support for the last few years, which is now coming to an end, which means they now need to find an extra £85,000 per year to replace this funding!!

They obviously enjoyed their day, they could not believe how friendly our Club members are and didn't leave until around 4:00 p.m.

So many members complimented the day that it can only be considered a resounding success, so thank you to all those members who gave up their time to take part in the day and a big thank you to everyone who made it happen. You may not have been named, for which I apologise, but be assured it was greatly appreciated.
