Windsor Bowls Tour 15-19 September 2025
A successful bowling tour, winning all matches. As many of the clubs were fielding County players we did well. A big vote of thanks from everyone to Liz Rollason who, despite the planning problems, managed to organise an enjoyable week.
Monday: The weather forecast for the week was not very promising and the first stop at Supermarine BC had received a downpour in the morning, which meant we could only bowl on four rinks. However, we were well looked after and entertained by a friendly club and won the match.
Thursday: Royal Wootton Basset BC was the next venue with another six rink challenge, which we won on a fairly bright afternoon that was free of rain. Once again our hosts were friendly and looked after us well.
Friday: Another fine day! So much for the weather forecast. After dropping off our bags, there was time to visit the City of Wells. It was amusing to see the swans ringing the bell to be fed at the Bishop's Palace at 1:00 pm. A five rink match which we won despite the green being in very poor condition. However, there was a great deal of banter with our hosts, an enjoyable visit.
Wednesday: A day off from bowling. An optional visit to Blenheim Palace was visited by many of the group, while the rest discovered the grounds of Littlecote House and the sporting and leisure activities available. Carolyn, Elaine, Andrew and Nigel managed to win the Warner Quiz - a voucher for tea and cake.
Tuesday: Despite the visiting US President Trump, causing the visit to the Royal Household BC to be cancelled, a very good replacement was provided by Windsor and Eton BC. On a sunny afternoon we played on six rinks against teams from both clubs, which we won, and were well looked after by a friendly club.

Saturday 5th July 2025, Middleton Cup, Cornwall v Dorset
Club Secretary Phil Stanley wrote
“Having had this match postponed due to very heavy rain on 7 June, the Dorset v Cornwall Middleton Cup match was played on Saturday 5 July with Abbrook Park hosting the game.
Both teams played to a high standard with fancied Cornwall emerging as winners after some very close games.
With a 10:00 am start, both teams arrived early and kept the kitchen extremely busy providing tea, coffee, bacon and sausage baps. Many thanks to Barb Lawrence and Jean Stevens for a great service.”
Club Competition Week-end 31st May and 1st June 2025
Opening of the Green, Saturday 12th April 2025
Despite the weather forecast the rain held off on Saturday 12 April (mostly) for nearly 60 members and guests to celebrate the Opening of the Green.
The Men's Captain, Rob Horrell, apologised for the absence of our Chairman, Tom Archer, who was playing in the National Short Mat Finals. He then welcomed everyone and introduced the Club's new main sponsor, Ashley Mathews of Coast and Country Estate Agents, who recently agreed a long-term sponsorship, which included the new shirts being worn by members.
President Gordon Clark gave the opening speech thanking the members for all the hard work spent in the Clubhouse, on and around the Green, transforming its appearance and getting it ready for the new season.
President Gordon then delivered the traditional first bowl. Ashley followed with the first bowl he had ever delivered and showed that he has the potential to become a bowler.
Following tradition, members then took part in a 'Spider' competition, which was won by Alan Sanders and a Round Robin Triples competition organised by Lin and Jeff Sharland, won by Barb Lawrence, Elaine Coombes and Dave Schooling.
After retiring to the bar, manned by Phil Lannon and Mike Meathrel, Jeff Sharland and Nigel Coombes gave an amusingly modified rendition of Whispering Grass which, with photo's, identified the effectiveness (or not) of Rob Horrell's crow scarers!!
The evening finished with the presentation of flowers and wine to Barb Lawrence and (in her absence) Jean Stevens and lager for Brian Lawrence as a thank you for the work they put in every Friday evening during the winter season making ham, egg and chips for members, raising £2,000 for club fund
On behalf of the Management Committee, many thanks for supporting a great afternoon, which was enjoyed by all.

Gardening Day’s Saturday/Sunday 22nd/23rd March 2025
A good number of club members, far too many to mention, rallied to the call from Dave Schooling for help at last Week-End’s Gardening Days. A fantastic effort from everybody concerned with some very creative touches.
